Welcome to Art Class!

Get excited, because we have some amazing projects planned for Art this year! We will be working with a variety of materials and techniques including: paper, watercolor, tempera paint, oil pastels, chalk pastels, pen and ink, weaving, sculpture, crayon resist, and printmaking.

In order to make art class enjoyable and make the most of class time, it is important that each student follow the classroom rules and procedures. Art class is not only about creating a great project, but also the process it takes to get there.

The process of art is important because it teaches problem-solving skills, patience, responsibility, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Art is also about experimenting with new ideas and communicating our thoughts about the world around us.

In art class this year, I hope to make art interdisciplinary by relating our lessons to other subjects such as math, science, language arts, history, and geography. Not only will the students gain a better understanding of the elements of art, art history, and art appreciation, but they will also gain better understanding of their core subjects.

Thank you for your interest in art and academics! I look forward to an exciting 2009-2010 school year!
