PreK- Crayon Resist Watercolor Names

In Pre-K this year, students are learning how to spell their names. What an exciting time!

So, as an extension, in Art Class, they're continuing to practice. The students started by tracing their names with crayons. After they traced their names, they experimented with color mixing by using watercolor paint to fill in the background of their artworks.

Didn't they do a beautiful job!

4th Grade- Symmetrical Cut Paper Names

These fourth grade artworks are symmetrical. They are exactly the same on both sides.

Can you find the names hidden in them?

5th Grade - Radial Initials

We used our initials to create this design.  They can be seen in the negative space.  In thepositive spaces, we created different values of colored pencils by applying varying pressures.

Like the sun that radiates heat from the center, our radial designs are the same all the way around from the center.

  Can you guess how we replicated the letters all the way around?  Ask a 5^th grader.

3rd Grade- Name Color Wheels

We practiced making line-shape letters and color mixing to create our own personal twist on ROY G. BIV.

We only used the three primary colors- Red, Yellow, and Blue- to create Orange, Green, Indigo, and Violet- the secondary colors.

We also learned that Black and White are not colors, but all colors and the lack of color, respectively.

Isn’t it interesting how the waxy crayons repel the watercolors?
