3rd Grade- Warm vs. Cool Color Silhouettes

Warm colors like red, orange, and yellow make us feel all toasty warm inside, while cool colors like blue, green and purple make us think of cool things. We used warm colors in the background of our artwork and cool colors inside of our silhouettes.

Did you know that if you cut the color wheel in half, one side will have all the warm colors and the other will consist of cool colors?

4th Grade - Straw Blown Fall Trees

We’ve created these go-with-the-flow watercolor paintings in the spirit of fall.  

We didn’t use a single paintbrush, though!  We used straws to blowwww the brown paint to make branches. Cotton swabs were used to dot on the little leaves. 

We learned about warm and cool colors.  The backgrounds of our paintings are cool and theforegrounds are warm. 

We also learned that when things are closer to us in a painting, they are larger and more detailed; this is called perspective.  

2nd Grade - Warm and Cool Pattern Hands

We’ve created paintings using one geometric shape and one organic shape- our hand.  Just like the lines coming from the shape, the warm and cool colors make a pattern too. 

Warm colors are the ones that make us think about fire- red, orange, and yellow.  Cool colors- green, blue and purple- remind us of Christmas trees, ice water, and grape popsicles.  Can you see how they repeat, repeat, repeat?

5th Grade- "Bad Hair Day" Patterns

We used exaggeration to create these big-haired portraits.

We used repetition and patterns to make the hair interesting.

We also learned about warm, cool and neutral colors.
